Guess what I had today for breakfast?
...............hotdogs and fried eggs. 😂
We have a group chat for our volunteering session. In it, people have been commenting that their host families have been feeding them hotdogs for an "American" breakfast. I'm not sure whether it is something that Thai people sometimes have for breakfast or if they actually think that we usually have hotdogs in the morning? Either way, there seems to be a trend where what one person has for dinner, the other volunteers will also have the same day or try the following, so I have been curiously waiting to see when it would be my turn. In the States, we usually have cereal, waffles, pancakes, oatmeal, eggs, yogurt, or fruits for breakfast. Here in Thailand, people have rice with savory accompaniments. I am not used to it because typically I just grab some fruit or a granola bar, as I am rushing out of the apartment to class. After breakfast, I helped Porr wash the dishes and fold the blankets. I want them to let me help out with the chores around the house.
Also, I finally met my host dad this morning! That was exciting. He is very nice and seems relaxed for a policeman, not what I was expecting. He can speak a little English and has visited Chicago once. My host parents went to mechanics to get their car fixed, but in the afternoon, we're going to go to another temple.
Sorry for never finishing this post yesterday! On the weekends, Pook gets tutoring at this local department store/supermarket. There are multiple levels: the bottom level is a grocery store, the middle level is like a mall and sells everything from books to electronics, shoes, clothing, etc., the upper level has the place where Pook goes to learn. We drove there to pick up Pook and got some iced drinks before leaving. Next, we went to the temple, or 'wat' in Thai, to see the giant Buddha. My host sister says that it is the largest sitting Buddha in Thailand and gold because that is supposed to be a lucky color. But, first we went to pray inside another temple. The outside and inside of the temple were covered with mirrored pieces. It was beautiful.
Have to leave for work, but will try to add more pictures and details later.
