Nicole's Tuesday in Home Health Care and Lab

Garret, Brooke, and I were all in home health care in the morning. The nurses and doctors make home visits to patients to improve quality of life and administer preventative care. There is a holistic medical approach of the body and mind and the team consists of public health nurses, social doctors, nutritionists, and more. Typically, the team goes to see three patients in the morning and three in the afternoon. This morning, we are seeing a premature baby with pneumonia and a grandmother with carcinoma in her lung.
The baby is 37 weeks old and seems to be doing a lot better. Garret taught me how to listen to the baby's lungs and heart beat and conduct some neurological reflex tests.

The grandma is 69 and has carcinoma in the bottom of her left lung. It had metastasized to her bone and she's in a lot of pain. She is on morphine for pain, vitamin B to supplement her diet, and cough suppressants.
Here are some pictures from the drive to the homes:

In the afternoon, we got to see the lab that provides services for the entire  hospital and even some surrounding clinics. It was pretty neat to see all the high tech machines and robotics that are here.

We ate dinner with P'Gok and her new pharmacist student and then went to a local market.
