Afterwards, we decided to go back to sleep until around nine o' clock. At nine, in our room, we ate a breakfast of raisin bread, guava with chili sugar-salt mixture, apples, and a slice of taro bread (purchased the night before from the 7-11 across the street). Yummy!
Nicole called her parents and I read Paper Towns by John Green until noon, before we ventured off to find Bangla Road, a popular, lively street alongside Patong Beach, lined with bars, restaurants and shops. We received a map from a nice lady working at the tour information booth and were informed that we could walk to Bangla Road if we wanted to. It would take about 30 minutes, which was fine with us, so we set off on today's adventure!
We came across this amazing dolphin statue and took pictures with the 'Patong Beach' letters to document our trip here! We were a little paranoid about getting lost, so attempted to keep track of the number of Family Marts and all the street names, as we passed by; however, we soon found out that either we could not read the signs, which were written in Thai, or it just did not exist. Luckily, the shopkeepers we stopped by to ask if we were heading in the right direction were very helpful and directed us to keep walking straight. Magically, we somehow found our way to the mall on Bangla Road.
We walked around the ground floor for a little bit before going to find the food court and eat lunch. The food court was really cute and surrounded by a bunch of nice, souvenir and gifts shops. At the Food Baazar, you first load money onto a card, which the vendors can then swipe when you make an order. We both got vegetarian Pad Thai for lunch.
After our snack, we proceeded to check out the upper levels of the mall, but most of the merchandise was the same as below, so we hit the streets to look at what the local vendors had to offer. We found many more good, meaningful gifts for people and even a lady who taught Nicole how to wear a sarong!
Nicole looking adorable.
We stopped by the beach and took some more pictures with another Patong Beach sign.
After spending a little time at the beach, we continued walking along the streets and got some banana chocolate crepes for dinner. Unconventional foods for dinner are the best! They looked and were delicious! As much as we like trying new foods while with our host families, we like the freedom of being able to choose what we want to eat on our weekend trips. We got a tuk-tuk and ate them while on our way to the weekend market in Phuket Town. The lady making our pancakes.
The road was really, really winding in some parts and our tuk-tuk had a loud, flashy stereo system, so we kind of felt obnoxious as we drove by the motorcyclists. The scenery as we made our way around the island was pretty though, and we wish we could have taken more pictures, but we were afraid of losing our phones and it might have been dangerous.
We arrived at the market around 6:00 p.m. It was very big, with rows and rows of shops, and somewhat overwhelming with all the people walking around, but we are glad we went and got to see and experience it. We bought more things, and shared a chocolate covered banana as we looked.
Around 8 o' clock, we left the market and headed back to our room at the villa. We stopped by at the 7-11 again to pick up more food for tomorrow's breakfast and some ice cream, which we enjoyed on the balcony while watching the waves come in and out onto the shore. There were some people sitting on the rocks fishing at night and others taking an evening stroll on the beach. We just liked listening to the water because it was peaceful and relaxing. Afterwards, we went inside, looked at all the things we got during the day, took a shower, read books, blogged, and went to bed. It was a great day and we're excited for day 2!
